Baldwin-Taylor hardware was founded in 1938 by Glenn and Emily Taylor Sr. Glenn was from Georgia and after selling neon signs across the Gulf South, playing semi-pro basketball and being a power company lineman. He found himself in New Orleans and managing the Comet Inn - a restaurant & bar on Jefferson Highway. Glenn saw a need in the community, so he and Emily opened a hardware store. The company prospered as a conventional neighborhood hardware store during World War II with preferred vendor status with the Army and Navy. With the development of industry on Jefferson Hwy, the river and the Clearview area, we were able to supply many industrial customers.
With larger competitors in the area, specialty areas have become very important. To that need, we sell and fill propane tanks, carry a wide selection of outdoor cooking pots, burners, propane fittings, and Louisiana made Cypress furniture. We are an Ace affiliate and are able to provide a wide range of product needs. Sadly, we only have memories of Glenn and Emily, but their work ethic, pride, and spirit live on through their son, Glenn Jr and his sons Matt and Clay. We pray that we are good stewards of a fine heritage and company. Thank you for your interest, we hope that you will visit us and we know that you will love this store!
